About Me #
I am a Principal Software Engineer dedicated to shaping complex systems—both technical and human—to work better together.
My work sits at the intersection of architecture, delivery, and enablement. Whether I'm shaping API-first platforms, improving developer experience, or unblocking stalled programmes, I’m typically brought in where things are complex, unclear, or not quite working—and expected to create clarity, cohesion, and forward momentum.
My "Desk Full of Projects" Approach #
A consistent thread through my work is what I describe as a “desk full of projects” approach. Rather than working in isolation, I explore multiple threads in parallel—systems, tools, and ideas that inform each other.
Currently, that looks like:
- Portable Linux Environments: Reworking a Raspberry Pi Zero 2 W into a USB stem drive with device-mode ethernet, SSH, and mass storage—a "carry anywhere" low-power environment that reflects my belief that a good tech worker doesn't need a precious laptop to be productive.
- Persistent AI Workspaces: Developing self-hosted, agentic workspaces (think Gemini-CLI or Copilot-in-a-can) using persistent context to solve the "do I need to tell you this again" pain of LLMs.
- Human-Centric Systems: Working on a cooking guide and system designed for people who find standard recipes overwhelming (particularly for ND/ASD/ADHD individuals), promoting food safety and empowerment without the rigidity of traditional instructions.
For me, these aren’t side projects—they’re how better systems get built. Cross-pollination leads to sharper thinking, faster problem-solving, and more grounded solutions.
Professional Focus #
Professionally, my work spans:
- Architecture & Systems Thinking: Designing scalable, API-first platforms aligned to real business outcomes.
- Cloud & Platform Engineering: Building and evolving systems across Azure, AWS, and modern DevOps environments.
- AI-Enabled Engineering: Using AI as a practical tool to reduce cognitive load, accelerate delivery, and improve knowledge flow.
- Delivery & Enablement: Turning ambiguity into action and helping teams move with confidence and clarity.
A significant part of my impact comes through people. I lead through mentorship, knowledge-sharing, and creating environments where others can do their best work. This includes shaping inclusive engineering cultures, supporting talent development, and actively contributing to psychologically safe, high-trust teams where diverse perspectives are valued and heard.
The Human Side of Tech #
I am particularly interested in the human side of technology—how people learn, adapt, and interact with increasingly complex systems. Much of my thinking explores a simple but often overlooked idea: powerful technology is only valuable if it’s accessible. This extends into my ongoing interests in AI-assisted workflows, the ethics of digital access, and the ways systems can unintentionally exclude or overwhelm the people they’re meant to support.
At the core of my work is a belief that good systems—whether technical or human—should reduce friction, not add to it. My goal isn’t just to build better tools, but to make them usable, understandable, and genuinely helpful to the people relying on them.
